Drinking and writing: A classic combo

So, in my search of the best blend of intellectualism and alcoholism, I found a place where I can truly let it all hang out -and over. Drinking and Writing in Chicago combines the two seamlessly through workshops, plays, radio shows and even a Drinking and Writing festival.

Now that your appetite is piqued, let me throw a wrench into the works.

This is why you're fat

Once again, the pictures are compelling. But, they may be just a little too gross for some. Not for me-it's just food. Gross food.

Some of it is actually kind of creative--and still others look, well, appetizing in a morbid kind of way.

People do the weirdest things with food and are still willing to (try) to eat it.

Food science is all the rage these days. Flash freezing with liquid nitrogen is the method most people associate with it, but there are many ways in which science is making a show of the dinner hour.

This website called Ideas In Food has the most incredible pictures I have ever seen of food. They jump right out at you, impressive from the start. The company is based in Levittown, PA and enjoys a cult following.

Hall, no Oates thank you...

A couple of weeks ago, I came across this video of Daryl Hall with Chromeo doing "No Can Do." I was blown away! (That video was actually my inspiration for this entire blog.)Although Hall and Oates were part of the background music of much of my young adult life, I never really thought of them as much more than successful pop artists. Well, Hall is much more than that and he proves it in each installment of his web show Live from Daryl's House.

Chromeo was his guest on this installment and they were great! They are playing Bonaroo this summer, so if you really dig this, catch them in Tennessee!

A New Day

It seems like the Web has always been around, doesn't it? A quick look at a magazine from the 90's will surely open your eyes to the harsh reality, though: at the bottom of the ad, you will find shop locations, a corporate address and even a *gasp* phone number! But no web address, no Facebook or Tweet link-no reference to the World Wide Web whatsoever. And to think this has really all just happened in the past two decades.

What we have now is nothing short of information overload to the nth degree. Communication has to be fast and furious, always shouting at us like a hopped up meteor storm. For better or worse, we are going to get bombarded from directions we never even considered in the very near future.

But some of this does have an upside. Information we did not previously have access to is front and center, if we surf to the right places. That is what this blog is all about: the intriguing musical spotlights, the sordid gossip, the doomsday theory of the day. This is the stuff so often hidden in the nooks and crannies that only a seasoned time-waster like myself can pluck out of the nether reaches of the web-iverse for your entertainment and occasional education.

So, drop in every so often and see what manifestations the web can produce. I'm sure you will have a nook or two to share with us along the way.
